CHAPTER 15

CREEPY CRACKDOWN

Kiyomi steered the out-of-control ghosts to the Haunted High swimming pool. It was just like Monster High’s pool—except the water floated on the ceiling and swimmers dove upward.

Kiyomi was trying to teach the ghouls how to fly. “Okay, let’s do it again. Just like before. First we go up…” She rose gracefully into the air.

Clumsily, the ghouls tried to imitate her. They weaved and wobbled, but with a little concentration, they managed to control themselves.

“And then we go down…” said Kiyomi.

The ghouls hovered above the floor.

“Very good, just like swimming!” instructed Kiyomi. “Now we go left.”

Unfortunately, Draculaura floated right, bumped into Clawdeen, almost passed through her, and ended up getting stuck to her.

“Left, Draculaura, left,” said Clawdeen, irritated.

“I know, I know, I’m trying,” said Draculaura, struggling to separate herself. Eventually, she managed to follow Kiyomi around the pool. “You are so spooky sweet to help us out, Kiyomi. You didn’t have to do all of this.”

Kiyomi’s face turned a rosy blush. “Yeah, Draculaura. I kind of did.”

“All right, ghouls, I think we’re ready. Let’s find Spectra,” said Clawdeen.

Sirena wasn’t so sure. “I didn’t realize how tricky flying would be for someone who’s never done it before.”

Rochelle gazed up at the pool above their heads. “Now that I’m weightless, there’s something I just have to try.” She tucked herself into a ball and hurled herself upward. “Cannonball!”

A yellow shimmer rippled where she splashed, bathing everyone in its shiny glitter.

Rochelle flew back to join the others who were applauding for her.

“Aw, I love that,” said River Styxx.

“I’m more of a swan-dive fan myself,” admitted Vandala.

The others couldn’t believe it.

“What?” said Vandala, surprised. “I’ve gotta like everything that’s pirate?”

The ghouls were finally ready to fly to the Creepateria—and look for Spectra.

It was lunchtime, and she was already there with Porter. Always keen to eavesdrop on gossip, Spectra couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

The ghosts were talking about the new students who had just arrived.

“I heard those new ghosts were kicked out of Monster High because ghosts aren’t welcomed there,” said one student.

“Somebody told me,” said another, “that they came here to warn us that those creepy Solids want to come up here and take over Haunted High.”

“Yeah,” agreed someone else. “I heard they want to suck us up in vacuum cleaners and put us in cages and feed us crackers.”

Spectra stopped at their table. “Gossip is garbage,” she scolded them. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. None of that is true. Those are just dumb rumors. Dumb. Hurtful. Rumors.”

She heard herself and couldn’t help but remember the rumors she had spread in the past. Gossip could be dangerous.

“Something wrong?” asked Porter.

“No.” Spectra sighed as she sat down at a table. “Just thinking about something a friend told me.” She looked up to see that very friend flying into the Creepateria. “Oh my ghouls! My ghouls! You came back!”

Clawdeen flew to her—and passed on through.

“You’re ghosts!” Spectra couldn’t believe it.

“Yeah, long ghost story,” said Clawdeen, joining her at the table. “But don’t worry.
